The fossil fuel industry continues to extract coal, oil and gas, blocking effective climate policies and using advertising to encourage consumption. By maintaining close ties with public institutions such as pension funds, schools, museums and sports clubs, these companies retain a level of social acceptance that represents the greatest obstacle to achieving a just energy transition and a habitable planet.
To tackle this situation, the organisation Fossielvrij NL is mobilising citizen power by driving a network of local groups and volunteers across the Netherlands. Through strategic campaigns, legal action against greenwashing, initiatives to ban fossil fuel advertising, and support for communities in the form of training and digital tools, the project aims to withdraw social support from fossil fuel companies and accelerate the transition towards a renewable and decentralised energy model.
